Happy Father's Day

So, it's Father's Day. This has been really hard for me the past 10 years without my Daddy. I managed to get through today by keeping extremely busy since I was hosting Tom's parents and my Mom and step dad for lunch. I actually began on Saturday by making my candy apple pie. It has to be refrigerated for at least 4 hours and since I knew I had so much to do today, it was a good idea for me to start Saturday. I woke up this morning at 6:12 said a prayer to get me through the day and then started working. I fed the animals and then did a little housework while Tom was still sleeping. I also started gathering my ingredients for my lunch. I then noticed I bought the wrong beans for my green bean bundles and had to make a quick trip to Walmart. I actually think this was the first time I have ever been in Walmart and only bought what I needed! I do have to admit I breezed through the books and magazines though. I'm a sucker for new reading material, that's a trait I definitely got from my Dad! So I get back home and prep the bundles and place those in the fridge while I got my creamy mac and cheese ready. However, wouldn't you guess...I didn't have any whole milk! Another trip to the store, but this time only to the gas station up the street. I finally got everything prepped and ready for the oven and woke Tom up to get him moving. While he showered, I mopped the floor and made the bed and got myself ready. Before I knew it, it was 12:30 and time to pop everything in the oven.

Tom's parents arrived right on time, 1:00. We welcomed them in and I stayed in the kitchen while Tom chatted with his parents outside. I still had lunch in the oven and with a few minutes left, I didn't want to leave my bread for fear that I may burn it which is what usually happens.

My parent's arrived shortly after I put lunch on the table and my Mom brought her famous sweet tea. We all sat for a delicious meal and I couldn't help but think of the meal that my Dad was enjoying in heaven. I know he was having some of his favorites and thinking about me as much as I have thought of him today.
